Japan Leather and Leather goods industry results in Oct., 2013

JAPAN LEATHER AND LEATHER GOODS INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION (JLIA) reported about the results in Oct., 2013

Production of leather goods and leather shoes is still decreasing.

Production of tanning is 140,000 sheets (-3.4% year to year basis). Production of leather shoes is 1,269,000 pairs (-8.5% year to year basis). Production of rubber and plastic footwear is 1,638,000 (+5.3% year to year basis).

 

Import amount increased significantly for each item.

Raw hide and skin / hide and leather - import: JPY2.95billion (+21.9% year to year basis) / export: JPY2.31 billion (+19.0% year to year basis)

Bags, handbags and other leather goods – import: JPY51.59billion (+17.2% year to year basis) / export: JPY0.37billion (+19.1% year to year basis)

Footwear – import: JPY55.02billion (+28.9% year to year basis) / export: 0.49billion (+6.6% year to year basis)

*exchange rate – JPY98.34/USD at the end of Oct., 2013

 

Consumption of footwear increased.

Consumption for footwear per household: JPY 1,720 (+6.5% year to year basis)

Consumption for bags and handbags per household: JPY841 (-12.6% year to year basis)
